Short Stories

My short stories are non-fictional accounts of people and incidents taken from my life. I try to connect the smaller details of our lives to more universal themes and patterns in society at large.

On Death and Dying: Essays meditating on passing.

Tales Told Out of School: Essays written from my perspective as both a student and a teacher.

The Big Dom's Saga: Big Dom's Submarine Sandwiches was an Albany, NY-area chain from the early 1960s to 1990. The growth and collapse of a family empire, hard work, tradition, betrayal, bankruptcy, lawsuits, robbery, death, and a hilarious delivery boy, round out this slice of America.

The Norwood Avenue Chronicles: Articles, essays, and poems chronicling events and people in my life growing up in my childhood home.

The Prison Chronicles: Articles, essays, and poems based on my experience as a former administrator and teacher in prison education programs.

The Urban Gospel: Life lessons found in everyday encounters.

Stray Thoughts: Humorous, I hope, short stories and parodies.
