The Prayers of Shiva

by G. Jack Urso

many arms reaching out in a dance of anger

summoning up the spirits that tortured my youth

for a handful of rice, a roof, a place in line

inconspicuous collusion

lending my weight

to support the grand illusion

stretching towards prometheus

to burn my tasking master

seduced until i succumb

dancing with the diva

to the prayers of shiva

i surrender
