Summer Twilight Haiku

by G. Jack Urso

cicadas shrieking

in the late afternoon sun

introducing night

restless . . . wandering

animals chasing shadows

on a silent earth

alone to their thoughts

they face the fearsome darkness

wait the coming dawn
